Ive purchased this feature many times but it often won't allow me to make a call, even long after 6 pm

The purchase of an add-on does not change your ability to make a call, it just gives you a better rate. If you cannot make a call (even long after 6 pm) there is another issue with your phone or plan.

Can you make calls at other times?

Does this happen  just after you purchase the prepaid add on or a few days later?  Does your account have money in it after you purchase the add on? 

If your balance is low and you are not making a local call the it will not go through.

This is a common question. Although rarely enforced by the system, you must have money on the account to use your already paid for features such as evenings and weekends 10 or a rateplan. Even though you've bought that feature so you might think who cares if my balance hits zero right? It technically has to have something on it for the feature to work. Even if you leave .50 cents. If you don't have a data block however, that can easily be eaten in a picture text. The second thing is that you must physically be in your local calling area or calling a local number. Otherwise it will be long distance at .50 per min and not work.
