I was recently on vacation (cruise) and I have an EasyRoam charge appearing on my account during one of the days I was away ($16.00).
Some points:
I'm wondering what else might have triggered this charge? Thanks!

I’ll guess (and it’s just a guess) that #6 is the culprit.

I have also had this issue - I had my data roaming off but kept cellular on in case of an incoming text message (which they say shouldn't be charged for). However when I came back, I had several days charges for roaming, despite not taking a call or sending a text. When I called, the person on the phone told me that app notifications were what caused the charges. A simple push notification from Sephora that popped up cost me $16. I have no idea how these are not blocked when data roaming is turned off, but they aren't.

When on a cruise ship, be sure to ask about on-board connectivity. Most cruise ships use satellite technology for cellular service, which can trigger high pay-per-use or Easy Roam charges for TELUS customers. These rates are often significantly higher than regular roaming.
