update:
As guided by TELUS_Support, "settings --> general --> reset iPhone ---> reset ---> delete all eSIM cards." The signal bar was back and I could make calls right away.
Thanks to everyone!

Hello. You're right, you'll need to either swap the SIM from the old phone to your new one, or visit www.telus.com/mytelus and log in to do it via self-serve online.

Hi I swapped the SIM via self-serve online, and it showed the new SIM was activated right away. But after 2 hours, it still no phone signal. Do you know how long it will take? thank you

Telus has some instructions here: https://forum.telus.com/t5/Mobility/How-to-Swap-your-SIM-Card/ta-p/132884
Did you happen to leave the old SIM in the phone and completed the swap online before switching the physical SIM card on the phone?

i swap from eSIM card to a new physical SIM card. Yes, I swapped online and inserted the new card after. now it seems that I can receive calls, but cannot make calls.

Hi @LT1 - it should be immediately done. Please place your phone in airplane mode and then disable airplane mode. That should force the phone to look for a signal

I did just now. it did not work. I even took the SIM card out and reinserted it, turn on and off several times
