NETFLIX on TELUS - May 2022

Netflix Twitter.JPG

Hello friends! Hope everyone's doing well and enjoying the warmer weather. It's almost May (already!) and NETFLIX is pulling no punches next month, delivering some of the best streaming content for us to enjoy. We've already got the fantastic final seasons of Ozark and Grace and Frankie to check out, and now we finally get the first batch of new episodes of one of the most popular NETFLIX series of all time. Remember, it's never been easier to add NETFLIX to your Optik TV package, and you can see how to do that at our website!

Let's see what's on deck in May, and what I'm hooked on these days!

Coming To NETFLIX in May

  • May 5 - The Pentaverate
    • Mike Myers returns to character comedy with a new hilarious limited series.
  • May 13 - Senior Year
    • Rebel Wilson stars in a comedy about a woman returning to high school after 20 years.
  • May 27 - Stranger Things (Season 4: Part 1)
    • The penultimate chapter begins for Eleven and her crew in Hawkins, Indiana.

Most Anticipated

Stranger Things (Season 4: Part 1)

It's been a long time coming, but the first half of the penultimate season of Stranger Things is finally upon us! As one of Netflix's flagship shows, the hype surrounding the first part of Season 4 is at a fever pitch, and we all know it's going to deliver. Six months after the events of Season 3, our group from Hawkins is split up and dealing with the directions their lives are taking them...but the horror of the upside-down is still rearing its ugly head.

As you probably know, Stranger Things is a mash-up of science fiction, horror, drama, comedy, and 80's John Hughes-esque teens-growing-up and in my opinion it'll go down as one of the best ever in all of those genres. It's been fantastic watching Eleven and the crew grow up before our eyes, and I can't wait to see what happens next. Where exactly did Hopper end up? Will Eleven fully realize her powers? Will the conspiracy behind all of those child experiments finally come to light?

If you're a fan of the genres listed above, you still have time to catch up on the first three seasons (trust me, once you start you'll be caught up in no time) before the first batch of Season 4 episodes drop on May 27!

What I'm Watching Now

Russian Doll (Season 2)

The second season of Russian Doll amazing! It's bigger, funnier, and more mind-warping than the first season and that's really saying something. For those that didn't catch the first season (it's more than worth your time with only 8 short episodes), Russian Doll is a comedy-drama starring the hilarious Natasha Lyonne as Nadia. She's a software engineer who finds herself reliving the night of her 36th birthday party in a never-ending loop when she repeatedly dies (no matter how much she tries not to, of course!) and instantly wakes up at the beginning of the party again. She frantically tries to figure out how to get out of the loop, when she stumbles across another person stuck in his own loop.

Now, four years after escaping their fate, Nadia and her new friend Alan are at the mercy of temporal time-shifting madness again! A normal jaunt on the subway leads them on a course through multiple generations in their past, while possibly altering their futures!

I've loved both seasons so far and found this to be a unique take on the well-established time loop plot device (i.e. Groundhog Day) as it's not only full of gut-busting humor, but shows characters doing everything they can to confront buried trauma and things they've done wrong in the past. We get to see how they have to correct them to avoid their fate of repeating the same day over and over again. This season really upped the comedy aspect, as well as the time travel aspect as we get to see them visit a number of different periods in time. It makes for hilarious and poignant storytelling and you shouldn't miss it. Both seasons of Russian Doll are streaming on NETFLIX now!
