Scam phonecall after being on the phone with Telus loyalty department

I find it very interesting that I get a call today from what the caller said was Telus Loyalty program.  He told me that because I was a long term customer, paid all my bills on time that Telus would like to offer me a free phone. (iphone or Samsung) and was quite pushy asking my which I prefer.   I said the offer was too good to be true and that I would check it out and call him back.  He hung up immediately. The number he was calling from was 250-262-9696.    What I find particularly disturbing is that I was on the phone with the loyalty department for two hours yesterday.  Is there a leak or scam within the Telus support?

Hello. There's no leak. For years, scammers have used multiple ways to try to swindle people into giving their personal/account info over the phone.

I also received the loyalty department run around today promising to get me a $35/line 3 year credit for my mobility accounts and a free iPhone 16. The call was from (250) 335-6627 and I received an order confirmation email from [email protected] and a device upgrade confirmation email from [email protected] with what appeared to be a Telus service agreement attached. I am pretty sure this is the same scam that others have reported.

It sounds like a scam to me also. A free iPhone and a call from a 250 area code number assigned to Union Bay BC, which is a tiny hamlet in the middle of nowhere? I'd be very suspicious of it.

Did they offer a fully free phone, or $0 down + a monthly fee for 2 years? Current base iPhone offer on their website is $0 up front and $33.38/mo for 24 months if Bring-it-back is used or $48.38/mo if it is not. A fully free $1161 phone is usually one of the scammer's offers.
