Thinking of switching to Freedom Mobility

I called Telus today to see if they could match the $50/month Freedom Mobility plan for Canada, US, Mexico (BYOD).  Telus said they couldn't match the price.  Is there any downside to switching to Freedom?

  • With the exception of slower data speeds in heavily congested areas, like Toronto. Freedom actually isn't a bad option. Like Telus, Freedom relies on one main band for pretty much the entire network coverage, which is band 4 where Telus uses band 66 which is an extension of band 4.

I haven't personally used Freedom but I have friends that have been using it for years with no complaints. Freedom is also much more friendly for devices not sold by the carriers, like OnePlus devices. 5G, VoLTE, and WiFi Calling all work on OnePlus devices on Freedom.
  • I switched from freedom to Telus about a week ago for better coverage and i am regretting it so far. Freedom was better for me.
  • I would love to know the answer to this as well as we were promised a travel package that Telus will not honor now. Can't wait to switch.

I'm planning to go to a Freedom Mobility kiosk tomorrow to discuss their phone plans further.  I will let you know how it goes.
