Phishing text just after joining Telus

martindr
Neighbour

Within a month of joining up with Telus for home internet, etc. during which I provided my cell number, I received this  phishing text message. I hope Telus is not vulnerable (or sharing our account details with parties who are vulnerable) to having them stolen by bad actors.

@martindr Spam and phishing comes in many forms and can happen at any moment. While we work to mitigate instances, spam/phishing, in general, is difficult to stop entirely. That said, your info is not shared with third parties. Please check out our FAQ on how we protect your data/privacy.

That was just coincidental. The carrier for any phone number is public knowledge. You can look it up here:
https://freecarrierlookup.com/

Scammers can send messages pretending to be the correct carrier based on that information.
