Roaming in Mexico

I have easy roam on my plan. I don’t want to pay 16$ a day but want to have my phone on incase there is an emergency back home so someone can get ahold of me. If I turn data off and leave my cell service on will I still get charged?

If you leave you cell service active you're likely to be charged roaming cost. When I travel to the States I put my Apple iPhone in airplane mode but leave my Wifi activated. I then will communicate to family and friends using Wifi from the hotel via social media messenger apps. There are travel sim cards you can purchase for you phone however you will be assigned a different phone number. There are usually no guarantee the travel sim cards work seamlessly so make sure you do your research before you take this route of purchase. Alternatively if you want the easiest seamless operation of your cell coverage pay the 16$ and select your days of usage.

Hi there! With Easy Roam, you’re only charged the daily rate if you use your device while travelling, such as making or receiving a call, sending a text, or using data. If you turn off mobile data and do not make or answer calls or send texts, you won’t be charged. However, if you receive a call and answer it, or if your phone uses data in the background (like updates or app notifications), the daily charge will apply.
