Star Trek: Lower Decks (Season 2)
Finally the second season is here! Star Trek: Lower Decks is such a blast to watch and I'm pumped that more episodes are finally on the way. Based on the iconic Gene Roddenberry series Star Trek, this adult-themed animated series follows the journey of the USS Ceritos in the year 2380. Featuring a stellar cast of voices including Jerry O'Connell, Jack Quaid, and Fred Tatasciore this series is the first comedy within the Star Trek universe and it's awesome!
What I really love about this series is of course that it has as much action and great writing as the live-action shows and movies, but unlike those...Lower Decks focuses on "lower deckers", all of the lower-ranking officers with menial jobs. That's what makes this hilarious; watching the new recruits and soldiers grasp with conflict as they come face to face with the most menacing alien races in the galaxy. Be sure to tune in for the first episode on August 12! You'll have a riot with this show!
What I'm Watching Now
Crave is full of classic series that you may have always wanted to watch or want to binge again...here's what I'm watching!
Six Feet Under
I can't believe it's been twenty years since the debut of this HBO classic. Airing perhaps before the age of binge watching, Six Feet Under was still critically acclaimed both while airing live and once it hit the stores in DVD format (where's my 4K restoration?). Widely considered to be one of the best shows of all time...and for good reason. If you've heard of it but never gave it a chance, stop now. Go watch it. All of it. Every episode.
This classic series ran for five glorious seasons, and is told through the eyes of the Fisher family, who owns and operates a funeral home in Los Angeles. On the surface, the series is a family drama that deals with relationships, work, infidelity, and religion. Get a few episodes in and you'll start to see some very poignant philosophical undertones that deal with mortality, fear, and even dark humor.
Each episode begins with a death, which the characters deal with for the episode...and which allows for the characters to reflect on their own lives, pain, and relationships with their loved ones. This is binge watching at its peak. The characters are so well portrayed, and the overall story is so well written that you'll be dying (see what I did?) to see what happens in the end. And the ending, oh boy. I still consider the last 10 minutes of the final scene to be the greatest finale in the history of television. I'm not kidding. Just watch it.
