Disabling and re-enabling Home screen

GerryR
Neighbour

Below are the instructions on the Telus 'how to' site.
Problem is the Options button on the remote does nothing.
It does not bring up any options to select Off or Don't Display.
It's like the Option button on the remote is not active.
Please help as my 88 year old father simply CANNOT navigate through this crap.
I must be able to set it up so it is easy for him to just watch live TV.  If not...I must cancel and go back to Shaw.

Hi @GerryR - is the rest of the remote working? I'm wondering if the remote is faulty

I can confirm while on the home screen pressing the Options button does nothing.

If removing the home screen /apps is a real thing please share! My elderly father just wants to watch TV! News and sports, all the extra features are in the way and completely wasted...

I believe the instructions you posted to hide Home Screen is for the older Telus 4k boxes and interface. If you have the new smaller android based Telus box then there is no way to hide the Home Screen completely. All you can do is push the back button on the remote . It would be nice if Telus could add the option to these new boxes to hide the Home Screen until one actually wants to bring it up.

Yep, I have the newest Android box, that is the only box available for new subscribers.

It does not change the fact there NEEDS to be a way to "only watch tv" there is a large demographic of users who only want regular basic TV, elderly, cognative challenged users who are frustrated with the system.

Either provide us an option to use an older "TV focused" set top box. Or a switch to turn off all the smart features / home screen on the current box.

This is a feature that our dev team is working on, but for now the easiest method as mentioned is to just press the Back button on the remote. We'll pass this thread along to our dev team as a reminder!
