FaceTime with a Iphone

Hello, I have a iPhone 14 and was wondering if it matters what kind of plan I have if I wanted to FaceTime someone in America while living in Canada. Will there be extra charges even if I’m using wifi?

FaceTime is an Apple service that uses data for voice or video calls. If you plan to use FaceTime over cellular, you need a data plan to use FaceTime. How much data will depend if you're doing audio or video, how often you'll use FaceTime and how long the FaceTime calls will be. That is in addition to any other activity that uses cellular data on your phone. If you ever go to the US and use FaceTime, you'd want a plan with US data included unless using wifi.

Wifi is completely separate from any cell plan and unless you're using wifi on something like an airplane or cruise ship, you shouldn't have to pay per megabyte of data used.

So if I use my wifi it won't cost me money?

It will not as long as connected to WiFi and not cellular data. Can even have the SIM card removed and phone in SOS mode and long as connected to Wi-Fi be able to do FaceTime Video and Audio calls as well as iMessage.
