I just got scammed by Telus. They called me offering me a Canada US Mexico 200gb Data Plan at a steep discount - matching my current rate/plan with Rogers plus offering me a home phone credit. I finally got the SIM card and when I activated it I was on the 5G+ Essential plan. No US/Mexico data. The sales rep (Omar Rafer) was so convincing and assured me so well. I recorded the phone call too.
I'm going to call Telus today and see if they can do anything. Just a warning to others - Telus will scam you to switch. If I can't get the deal I'll switch back to Rogers and hopefully they'll give me my old plan back. I'm thinking about releasing the shared call on socials too to help others steer away but first I will see how calling in goes.
This is wild!

There is a short "cooling off" period where you can rescind the contract.
I received a similar call with a promise of a better plan. It sounded like the guy was in a "boiler room" with other sales pitches going on. Thing is, I'm happy with my current Telus plan and so I declined the offer. It takes time to compare the details of different offers so I only tackle a change when the contract term approaches.
It left me feeling suspicious about the approach: Is Telus enabling third parties to pitch plans to Rogers and Telus customers? I'd like to know the relationship (contractors?) and financial incentives for the people pitching these plans. Seems dodgey to me for a company to be outsourcing the customer relationship. I hate to have my time wasted.

I am going to rescind the offer and try to go back to Rogers but I will definitely be posting about this online if Telus isn't able to offer me what I was promised. The thing is, I was skeptical on the phone because I had almost been tricked like this before. I had an agent in the past (about a year ago) assure me they could get me a better deal and then at the end of the call when I asked him to confirm Mexico/US he said "no." This time, I asked him to confirm and he confidently assured me Mexico and Canada were in scope.
I will rescind the offer if they can't give me what I was promised. I also hate having my time wasted especially by outsourced contractors that don't actually care after you sign up. I try to be nice to everyone on these calls especially when I call in and ask to speak to people since it's not like it's the person who is helping me scammed me. At the same time it's insane that Telus can be so shady.
