Most Anticipated

The Midnight Club

Horror fans rejoice! Just in time for the Halloween season, the highly anticipated series The Midnight Club drops on Netflix to deliver the scares. Directed by the talented Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass), this new series is based on the young adult novels from Christopher Pike. A group of terminally ill young adults reside in a hospice, meeting every night at midnight to tell each other scary stories. One night they make a pact with each other that the first to succumb to their illness has an oath to communicate with the remaining members from beyond the grave. When one does die, the horrifying and bizarre occurrences begin.

I'll take all of that you got. I'm a massive fan of Flanagan's work, and The Midnight Club looks to be yet another series that is the definition of bingeworthy. All of his previous series are masterclasses in mixing supernatural horror with grounded reality. Just enough jump scares and otherworldly horror, but not too much that it becomes campy or unbelievable. I've personally always found that type of more realistic horror to be the most effective. Sure, aliens with five heads are scary, but something terrifying happening in your town to normal everyday people? That's the scariest.  The Midnight Club appears to be another masterpiece, just in time for the Halloween season. Be sure to check it out when it drops on October 7!

What I'm Watching Now

Cobra Kai (Season 5)

The fifth season of the continued Karate Kid story has been awesome so far! The saga of Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso has been one of the surprise hits of Netflix for me lately. Nowadays it seems that every series and movie from our youth is continuing with new stories as the characters have all grown up, but few do it as well as Cobra Kai. Mixing nostalgia with new, exciting storytelling is hard to do but this series pulls it off.

Following the conclusion of the All Valley Karate Tournament in season 4, the villainous Terry Silver continues to run Cobra Kai how he sees fit, and he's out to ensure that his style of karate is the only game in town. It's up to former enemies Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) to stop Cobra Kai in its tracks. You're in for a treat with this series, but be sure to check out the first four seasons if you're not already caught up! All seasons are now streaming on Netflix. Be sure to check it out!
