My iPhone won't work in USA

I live in the USA. My son in Canada gifted me an Iphone 14 that previously used Tellus in Canada. I was able to set it up with T -mobile but it is not working. I have contacted both the genius bar at the Apple store and T-mobile. Tried a new sim card but it won't activate. T-mobile has concluded that previous carrier (Tellus) has maintained some sort of block on the phone even though the phone indicates that there is no block. Is it possible the phone has been blacklisted by Tellus for some reason. How can I check this out?

  • Here’s how to check if your iPhone is carrier locked or not.  If it’s locked, you will need to call Telus to get it unlocked.

    1. Open the Settings app.
    2. Tap General.
    3. Tap About. If "No SIM restrictions" appears next to Carrier Lock, your iPhone is unlocked

If the phone was reported as lost or stolen then it would be blacklisted by Telus.

Already checked that. That is why I said "the phone indicates that there is no block"

murray3 We stopped locking devices in 2016 (iPhone 7 onwards are sold unlocked) so your device wouldn't have been carrier locked to TELUS. The only thing that could potentially be "blocked" would be the device having been blacklisted on the National IMEI blacklist as the result of it being reported lost or stolen. This "flag" would prevent the phone from operating on networks in Canada and the US.

You can enter your phone's IMEI to see if it's on the list: https://www.devicecheck.ca/check-status-device-canada/
