Grandpa is switching from Shaw. What to expect?
So I found out my grandpa is switching to Telus after years with the same equipment from Shaw, and I’m honestly wondering how difficult it will be to make the switch. Some of the main concerns I have are: Does the new Optik TV system still have that annoying Home Screen that pops up every time you turn it on that can’t be disabled? My other grandpa tried the new Optik TV system for a few days and it made him switch back to Shaw after only a few days as he hated it and isn't able to learn anything new with technology. (Yes, really.) Is there ads with Stingray now? My grandpa listens to the Easy Listening channel all the time and I heard from our neighbours that the new Telus Optik TV boxes unfortunately have ads now. Hoping that isn’t true as they receive Stingray without ads right now. Does Shaw still require you to give up the Shaw email address when switching? Because they unfortunately picked Shaw for email when they first got internet, and even when I tried to switch them to Outlook they wouldn't switch to it. (Yeah that’s more of a question for Shaw rather than Telus, but thanks Rogers for shutting down the Shaw forums and not allowing Shaw customers to use the new Rogers forums). What about Wi-Fi router placement? Their ONT got installed in the garage which is a bit of a dead zone where we don’t want it to be placed and there is no Ethernet cabling in their walls as it's an 80's house. Their current Shaw modem is in the living room where most of the devices are.Apple TV 4K Gen 3 through Telus rewards?
I was browsing through the available Telus rewards and noticed that an Apple TV 4K is available for reception. However, looking through the description, it says its 32GB and has the A10X chip, indicating than its the first generation Apple TV 4K as the current 3rd generation Apple TV 4K comes in 64GB or 128GB and has the A15 chip. Is Telus rewards really still giving away the 1st generation. despite being discontinued for a while now, or have they moved on to the 3rd generation now and simply forgot to update the description?2.9KViews0likes5CommentsCant access home phone voicemail or reset password
So I just enabled Call Control on my Telus home phone and when setting it up there was an option to send people straight to voicemail if they failed to get through call control. I thought this would be a great idea to set up in case an important call failed to get past the call control feature, however we have never used voicemail before because we use a home answering machine instead, so I decided to try and set up voicemail on our home phone and its been nothing but trouble. When I dial *98 to access our voicemail, it asks for a mailbox number but I do not know what mailbox number its asking for. I tried both entering 1 as well as our home phone number but none work and it says it's invalid. I eventually decided to go into our MyTelus account and try to reset the passcode there, but all we get is an error code. Any idea what I am doing wrong to get voicemail working on our home phone?4.7KViews0likes4CommentsNetflix not working on Optik TV
My dad was trying to watch Netflix on our Optik TV boxes tonight, however, when he tuned into the channel and launched the app, it got stuck on a screen with a very dim Netflix logo for a minute, then it booted us out to the apps menu. Launched Netflix again from the apps menu, same thing happened again, dim logo for a minute then booted out to the apps screen. Is something not working with Netflix anymore?5.6KViews0likes2CommentsOld Optik TV vs New - Which is better?
So my grandpa is currently with Shaw and is paying a very ridiculous price for TV + internet with them, so I am shopping for some better plans for them. So far Telus has a better price plus he already has home phone and mobility with them, so I was thinking of getting him to switch over. The big issue is wether or not the new Optik TV system is worth it. Should we just go for the new system or instead ask if Telus can instead instal the old Optik TV system? Cause Ive been hearing problems with the new system such as worse picture quality and other issues, and unfortunately no one else in the family currently has the new system to try out for ourselves. Plus my grandparents mostly watch and record live TV and I doubt they watch streaming services that much, so the lack of streaming apps on the old system shouldn't be too much of an issue for them.12KViews0likes10CommentsRefurbished Wi-Fi Hub shows previous users devices.
So I just recently had my T3200M replaced with a Wi-Fi Hub so my two boosters can now both go wirelessly without needing a direct ethernet connection to a modem, and I think I have discovered a serious privacy issue. When I go into the Connect app and view the devices idle for over 48 hours, it mostly shows a bunch of devices we have never even had in our household. Some of which include a Google Home speaker, Samsung Smart TVs, a Wyze Smart home hub, a PS5, Galaxy Watches, Canon Printers and more devices we have never had nor has any visitor in our house ever have had. So does that mean my Telus Connect app is showing me the devices the previous user of my Wi-Fi hub had before they sent it back to be refurbished? If so, this is a huge privacy problem, cause considering that Im now sending back a T3200M and it worries me that whoever may use that next after it gets refurbished will now see our devices in their Connect app. I also use Fing Desktop thats always running in the background of my MacBook, and it never showed any of these devices from the Connect app in there.2.3KViews0likes1CommentRe: I upgraded to PureFibre 1.5 GB but speed remains 1GB
Was wondering what router you currently have from Telus? I believe you need the new Network Access Hub in order to get speeds beyond a gigabit, as that has the 10G ethernet port. Not sure about the older Wi-Fi hub though.14KViews0likes1CommentFaster Telus for Good plans
I am on PWD and considering getting Telus Internet for Good. Currently I am using Freedom Home Internet which gives me 150 MBPS for $55 a month. I see that what Telus is offering is currently only $20 a mont but you only get 50 MBPS. is there any way to get a faster plan discounted under Internet for Good?Solved4.2KViews1like3Comments
