Linking Slim 2 controller to LG Tv

Hughbee11

The connection between my Slim 2 Telus Controller and the TV suddenly quit working.  Cannot turn on/off TV, change channels, control volume... Nothing!

I have be through the instructions 4 or 5 times and with 3 controllers (the one I was using, an pervious one I had used and a brand new never used one).  Nothing happens.  Change batteries, restarted my Optiks connection by unplugging everything and leave for 5 minutes or maybe more...nothing

Even on the first step - point controller at TV and hold options button until green light flashes twice.... green light doesn't even flash. One time it did flash nothing else happened after that.

I had some apps installed and can access those via the LG controller but no internet TV?

Any ideas or suggestions?  Thanks

Do you have the newer Optik equipment? If so, have you tried the resync process with the following codes:

Thank for your reply.

I am not sure,  we have had the Optik for a few years (guessing at least 5 years).  The problem is that it appears I don't seem to have any connection between the controller and the TV.  When I hold down the "options" button I do not get the green light flashing, and have no opportunity to even enter any code.

At one time in my poking around on the TV settings and checking out options I got the message that said there was no signal. I don't remember at what point that was, but do remember at the time thinking that it appeared to be related to the problem but didn't know how to rectify it.

I do have the LG controller that came with the TV and can access the TV channels. YouTube, and other apps that I use.  But of course do not have access to the options controlling recording, pausing, and the TV Guide etc, that I do using the Telus Slim 2

One other thing, I recently started using the LG ThinQ app on my cell for interacting with the TV.  Is it possible that maybe somewhere along the line that is messing the system up?

That could be the reason, and there's always the possibility that you need a replacement remote as well. You could always reach out to our Home Services team to inquire about that.

Thanks, I do have a new one, never used.

The other evening, the one I was using was working fine, no problems or issues with it. I turned the TV off and went to bed. The next morning it would not turn on the TV. I used the LG controller to turn it on and tried the Slim 2 to change channels. Change volume etc....no response of any sort with it.
The new Slim 2 won't connect.

I assume you already checked the batteries on the remote? [edit, yeah you check it already]

Does the remote light flash when you press any button?

Hi Xray;

  • Thanks for the reply.  No.  I think at one time the light did blink once (supposed to blink twice) while pushing the "options" button, but in any case it did not work
  • Yes I changed the batteries and went through all the steps that are posted in Telus help an number of times.
  • Also went through all the settings on the TV to see if there was anything there.  Nothing worked.  But there was one setting of some sort (Didn't think - duh -  to make note of which one) that responded by giving me a message of "No Signal"

Does the remote light up if you press the number buttons or any of the other buttons besides the option button?

No.  I tried numerous keys, various numbers and otherwise.  Tried on 2 controllers, one I had been using and the new one.  Nothing on either.

The remote is faulty (hardware) and needs to be replaced if it doesn't light up when any button is pressed. There is no connection between the remote and any other device so nothing on the TV or phone will impact the remote functionality. Could it be that the replacement batteries are bad? Can you test the batteries independently?

Thanks, it makes sense but I just find it strange that the one I just took out of the original package should be faulty ... but hey you can drive a new car off the lot and have problems haha.  I do have a battery tester and will check that although I had previously checked and they were good.

I suppose that the LG ThinQ would not have possibly changed a setting of some kind on the TV itself that would have affected operations that way?

The remote only outputs signals, it doesn't receive input so it's oblivious to the state of the devices it's sending signals to.

Ok,  I will double check the batteries again.  So you are then suggesting that I might need to get a new controller if nothing else is working here.  For now at least we do have access to everything, just missing being able to pause the tv, control and access the pvr and channel guide, stuff like that.

Also something that may have caused the problem,  I recently started using the LG ThinQ app on my phone for as a controller. It is working but don't know maybe that has changed something??  (also see next reply in response to your last question)

Just a thought, have you checked the battery orientation when you put the new ones in?

As far as I can tell the Telus remote only controls the TV volume.

If you run the reboot, it should ask if you want to pair with TV, have you tried that? If yes then the codes suggested will need to be done until the volume works the TV.
