while in Mexico, if we use the WIFI. would we still be charged extra for data used?

If you turn off your cellular data or remove the SIM card.... no data charges will incur.

To confirm, you can always sign onto Telus Mobility to see if any roaming charges are appearing.  Some applications require cellular data to initialize before it can use wifi data (I hate this) and can rack some some minor charges.

BTW.... hope you are using a VPN.  Public wifi in hotels and restaurants are unsecured.  Depending on what device you have, you might want to research products like SurfEasy VPN.

There is no data charged if you are connected to wifi. Make sure you disable your mobile data, remove sim or turn on airplane mode to avoid that your phone does connect to mobile data network if it disconnects from wifi.
