Data Block feature costing $2pm
Anyone know what this Data Block feature is all about. What if I decline?
Thanks.

I also have no idea what this is. Is it some sort of data service (other than the Data10,20,30 things I see), or is it something to block data from happening (which should not be needed on my phone which does not do data). If the former, is it a new extra fee to allow the data plans to work or does it actually include some data - if the latter, why should we need to pay to NOT have something? Why should we need to ask to turn something off that we have never asked for in the first place, and how can they justify charging for it if we don't?
How do you actually contact Telus support? - the chatbot thing is just useless, and has no option to connect you to a real person even though it can't answer your question.

I messaged Telus support from this page (click the envelope to start a new message) and they were very responsive. But also screwed up the account. So double check what they do. I asked them to remove the data block feature currently billed at 0 dollars, scheduled to be billed at 2 dollars (yes it’s for a block of data which you may or may not want)
In order to correct the secondary error I had to call and work really hard to get the agent not to bully me into a more expensive plan. Be firm. They have to give you written notice of changes and fee increases. Good luck!

During my call to have the "Data Block" feature removed, I had asked Telus client care for a reference number but told me they cannot provide one which is very odd. However, I requested an email which was send to me as proof. Hang up the call, if only you have confirmed receiving the email. Then for a few days monitor the transactions in your account, I was charged with a $2 fee and other data adjustment fees which were reluctantly reversed after I threatened to go to another provider after the term is up.

I tried replying to this but Telus decided not to recognize my login, so here I am with a new username.
I contacted Telus_support and got that data block feature taken off the prepaid account. Be careful they don't take other things away, like the account itself (it happens).
I would guess that from the way they wrote the notice of changes, once the feature is active (January something) it can be cancelled or changed from the account page but you're right, at the moment it is not. You have to contact them.

I had called in to their customer service December 17, 2025 for my 365 pre-paid plan ( I only have 400 minutes/400 texts with no Data) and to have the $2 fee data blocked feature removed so to avoid the cash grab fee of $2, they still charged me pre-emptively $2 plus other "system data adjustmnet fees" before January 20, 2026. I had to called back and wasted time and resources for both Telus and me to have all charges reversed. They expect not everyone will call, meanwhile once the 1st fee of $2 is applied to accounts they would have made millions. Before January 20, 2026, a customer cannot have the change made on-line via their account or visit in store but must call in to have the feature removed. It is only after January 20, 2026 and after the 1st $2 billing cycle that access to the account will be provided.
"Starting January 20, 2026, the cost of your data block feature will increase from $0 to $2 per month.
Please note: If you are on a long-term plan (365-day, 180-day or 90-day plan), the cost for the data block feature will be applied monthly.
If you would like to remove this feature before the increase takes effect, please call us before January 20, 2026. After that date, you can add or remove this feature online or in store—along with the call-in option currently available—just like any other plan or add-on."The "Data Block" feature removed is I believe, at the back-end of Telus networks. Customer Sevice also advised to have the "Cellular" turned to "Off" in the Settings (for iPhones) but not sure for Android devices.

No does not work: all I have in settings is “Connection”. NOT Connectivity and anyway Connection does not lead me to Network or Data settings.
So still no solution and all I want is not to be charged the extra $2.

Yeah. Weird. And, we are told calling its customer service for disable this service. I never know/use the service. I can't connect them over 2 hours!
From all your questions, I wonder why we are not provided a simple switch disable the service. We can be charged for the month only if we enable it.- TELUS_Support

You should be able to remove it via your online account. If you need assistance, send us a private message, and we will be happy to help.

THIS IS COMPLETELY USELESS!
- I, like so many others (both individual and corporate) have NO data plan! So why did I get this message? I didn't even know there was such a thing before I got the message and therefore NEVER used it!
- So, I logged into the My Telus account, searched for data block & selected the suggested 'Data block.'
- I then selected the suggested 'Setting up mobile data notifications, blocks and preferences…'
- That page reads;
'Want to be notified when you are nearing your mobile data limit? Control all settings related to data notifications and set up data blocks using Data Manager.
The Data Manager feature can be accessed on My TELUS by navigating to the Usage tab and selecting the Data Manager link under the applicable subscriber. You will then land on the Data Manager page shown below.'
- I followed the instructions.
- THERE IS NO 'DATA MANAGER LINK' ON THE PAGE THE 'MY TELUS' 'USAGE TAB.' At least I couldn't find it.
JUST GIVE US A CLEAR, UNAMBIGUOUS SET OF INSTRUCTIONS TO FOLLOW RATHER THAN THIS KIND OF RUN AROUND TO STEAL MONEY FROM US!

I have the same question, relating to a Prepaid phone with no data. Am i supposed to pay $2 a month to keep having no data?? This is so weird.

If you want to avoid pay-per-use data charges, keeping the data block in place is recommended. Otherwise, the data feature can be removed. Just keep in mind that without it, any accidental data usage could result in pay-per-use charges.

I don't want a data block at all on the account in question. Tell me how to decline it. Calling your office is not practical as the waits are looooooong
Telus addon upsell. “Data Block is a feature that allows users to send picture and video messages via texting, but not access the internet in other ways.”You don’t need it if you have data on your mobile phone plan. If you don’t have data, turn off data and turn on Data Saver in your phone settings If you receive a mms message, turn on data, download and turn data off again and save yourself $2 per month.
