SIM move from locked iPhone to new unlocked iPhone.

I presently have an iPhone 7 Plus that is locked to Telus.

Can I move the SIM card from the iPhone 7 Plus to a new unlocked iPhone 15 Plus purchased from Apple as is or do I need to have my iPhone 7 Plus unlocked before moving to the new phone?

If I put the SIM card in my new unlocked phone will it then become locked?

I have very little knowledge of cell phones so any help would be appreciated.

No cellular device sold in Canada since December 1, 2017 is locked to a specific carrier. The SIM cards are independent of the phone so moving them to a new device shouldn't have any issues.

The only exception is if you set a SIM PIN# on the old iPhone. If you did set a SIM PIN, when you put the SIM into the new phone, it will ask you for the PIN that you created for that SIM card. (Settings > Cellular > SIM PIN)

Thanks, I’m new to all this.

I checked & SIM PIN is set to “OFF” so assume I should be okay.

Yes, if the SIM PIN is currently off, you're fine.
