I plan on paying off what's left on my phone in january or febuary after i have some money saved up. I have the ipohne 8 right now and i'll have to pay off $390. i plan on upgrading to the iphone xs. Will I get the phone for free after I pay off my 8 or will i have to pay more money to get the xs?

Depending on the phone (64 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB) and the plan you choose, you could pay anywhere from $430 to $1910 up front for the phone.

well i plan on getting the 64 gb on the same plan i'm on right now so idk why i would ever have to pay $1910 for a phone that i'm getting on a 2 year contract?

$1910 is the full price for the top of the line 512GB model. $430 would be the minimum payment required for a base 64GB iPhone XS on a $115 per month 2 year plan. The new iPhones are not cheap ($1415 for the 64GB alone) so you won't get one for free on a 2 year contract. Now Telus does have a trade-in program that can reduce the cost of a new device, especially if your iPhone 8 is in good condition.

If you're getting a new phone on contract, there's a really good chance you'll be required to get a new plan to go with it. You may want to talk to someone at a Telus store or call in and ask just to be sure.

yeah well no way in hell would i need a 512 gb phone 😂 Idk how it works since I've never paid off a phone before. i dont see the point in trading in my phone though? like i was thinking that but i'll just have to pay the phone off anyways wont i? my iphone 8 is in great condition i've only had it since the end of january and it has a glass screen protector and otterbox on it 🤷🏼‍:female_sign:

Yes, you'd have to pay off your current phone either way. The trade in would get you some value back at least, to be used towards a new device.  Seeing as how expensive the XS is compared to the 8, having to pay less for the XS isn't a bad thing.

If you've only had the 8 since January, why not keep it a bit longer? Rushing to pay off a relatively new phone only to get a much more expensive replacement device and new, likely more expensive, cell plan, doesn't make much sense.

idk I'm tired of it and cause i want the xs i. i plan on keeping the 8 until january or february atleast. I guess i'll wait until i get it paid off a bit more and trade it in so probably february i guess

Never pay-out a subsidized device balance, that's throwing money away. You have a contracted subsidy on the SGS 8, to pay Telus 390.00 (or any amount) to end your contract early is giving them more money than you'll pay them outside of service charges to the end of your contract. Save that money up, and at the ended of your contract, buy your iPhone. Also, if you wait until after your SGS 8 contract ends, Telus may send you offers you won't get now. I've had many offers sent for the newest iPhone in the last few months. You may want the new phone RIGHT NOW, but financially, you'll be losing big RIGHT NOW and into the near future. You lose nothing by being patient.

Yeah well i'm not waiting another year because i want the phone now. In another year my iphone 8 probably wont work, and it'll be slow as hell. I want a bigger phone and i dont even know if its $390. I'm on another persons contract because im not 18 so i wont be getting any offers. If i pay however much the balance is and then trade in my phone and use that towards the purchase of the iphone xs i dont understand how its not worth it. my iphones gonna be so worn down next year because the new iphones came out and i probably wont get as much money for it 🤷🏼‍:female_sign: i'll still have to buy the iphone xs and pay the bill so whats the problem?

I have an iPhone 7 and it runs just as fast as the day I got it.

While that’s true. Not everyone experiences the same thing. My 8 Plus is lagging compared to my Xs. Many have reported similar issues in the apple community forums

That's not what @Nighthawk said, though. Comparing the speed of a older phone against one with a new and faster processor, is an unfair comparison. OF COURSE the newer one is faster.

its still the same. I got the 8+ one year ago exactly today. It lags compared to the first day I got it. Yet his experience is different with his 7.

In the end everyone with different phones or the same will experience different things and won't be all the same. Just because his 7 so call works just fine as it did at launch or brand new doesn't mean someone with the same phone or any other phone will experience the same.
