Telus Voice plans state: "These plans cover all your talk and text needs for our range of Smartphone Lite devices. Plus if you’d like data, you can add it on." However, the Nexus 5 is not considered a 'Lite' phone, and requires a greater subsidy of the SharePlus plans. If you buy the phone outright, then you should be able to get the voice-only plan as a Bring Your Own Device option. You could also buy the phone direct from Google store and bring it as an unlocked device to Telus, and choose a plan.

You might also be able to negotiate something in between, depending on circumstances.  Why not call and find out?
