How can I cancel my Optik TV?

I am beyond frustrated right now.  I have been a loyal customer with Telus for 26 years and have just recently decided to cancel my OPTIK TV.  I have internet service at both my primary residence and my cabin and have decided that I no longer watch enough TV to justify the cost.  I phoned today, with my account number, my PIN and all the information needed, my name is on the account but I am not the ‘primary account holder’ - that is my husband.  Even though I pay all the bills and manage this account I am NOT ALLOWED to cancel this service!  I can add all the services I want and rack up the bill to a bejillion dollars without my husband - what the hell kind of racket is this?  I am pretty tempted to phone up BELL or ROGERS and see what they go going on.

    Where I’m confused, is that I am able to add any number of services to this account thereby increasing the amount that the account holder has to pay. How does that make sense? This does not protect the account holder in any way shape for this policy. This strict policy that you have only seems to protect the bottom line.

      Typically service agreements hold cancellation fees so we want to make sure that the account holder is aware of any costs associated with the cancellation of the service. In this case, also the return process for the equipment.

       

      As you have noted, authorized users can increase costs but they can always be removed without a penalty. The Account Holder also gives permission for us to add an Authorized User so they are giving consent for the Authorized User to make these changes so they are involved in the process from start to finish.

    Hi Corinaw - we do have a strict policy that only account holders can cancel services to protect the account holder.

     

    We can make things work by speaking to you about what you plan on doing (cancelling) and having the account holder with you to authorize the cancellation. Since these services are linked to the account holder's credit, they need to be aware of any cancellations.
