Controlling Your Sonos Beam Soundbar Volume Directly With The Slimline 1 Remote

This is for people who still have a Slimline 1 Remote and want to control their soundbar volume directly, instead of controlling it indirectly via their TV connected to their soundbar. The main reason for doing this is that your soundbar may be too close to the front of your TV that it may actually block some or all access to the IR receiver on the TV. Because of this, you may want to control your soundbar volume directly. For this to work though, you need a soundbar that can be programmed to learn the the volume controls of your remote, like the Sonos Beam can.

Basically all you need to do is the following.

1) Program the TV mode on the remote to match your TV brand, if you haven’t done so already.
2) Program the AUX mode on the remote to match any receiver/amp brand (ie Harman Kardon = 62).

3) Program your Sonos Beam soundbar to use the volume controls on your remote by accessing the  S2 apps Settings > System > Product > Remote Control Setup.

What’s happening here is that when you program the TV mode to your TV brand, your remote’s volume controls will automatically now adjust your TV volume. When you then program the AUX mode to work with a receiver / amp (ie Harmon Kardon), your remote’s volume controls will automatically now adjust the volume of that particular receiver / amp directly instead. Finally by programming your soundbar to now use the volume controls of your remote, you are now able to control your soundbar volume directly.

PS. Why not just program your soundbar to use the same volume controls as your TV as well? I tried this at first but for some reason it wasn’t very reliable. Once I programmed it using the AUX mode above, it was much more reliable when changing the volume.
