When should I cancel my plan?

Just Moved In

Hi there. My Telus 24-month contract will end on October 13, 2018. I'm thinking about switching to another carrier. When should I cancel my Telus plan if I want to also port my number to another carrier? Is it 30 days before the contract end date or is it on the contract end date? Thanks!

This is the correct link for costs at termination of account. A user only pays the outstanding device balance, if any. In the case of the OP, at 24 months, there is a $0 device balance.

Neither. If you wish to port your number, you open an account with the new carrier, and apply to port the number by whichever method the carrier uses. Once the porting process is complete, the account with your current carrier will be closed, and you will receive a final bill with any outstanding amount owing.

Do not cancel your plan with TELUS if you intend to keep your current phone number. Porting your number to another carrier will allow you to keep your number and close your account with TELUS.

You can do it anytime. Just keep in mind that you'll be charged a $50 early cancellation fee as well as your remaining device balance. See here for more info.
