software update for HTC One x/ one x+ (sense 5/4.2)

Just Moved In

i purchased the phone when it was a carrier flagship and the fact that there has been no software updates past sense 4/4.1 when the rest of the world has it is just plain insulting too the people who spent good money on a smartphone.

reading some posts i saw that @Violins77 was offered a new phone at $0. how did you squeeze this out of telus because everytime I call looking for answers they just tell me information that is useless to the subject.

any info would be great as i am super pissed off at both HTC and Telus.

Hi donut07, you should try and search online (on HTC's website) in regards to information about the your next software update. Your mobile provider doesn't have much control since it will be coming from Android/HTC. If it becomes available for Telus, you'll find the update here http://mobility.telus.com/en/ON/Software-Updates/index.shtml.

You can also see in regards to upgrading your device by visiting your local Telus dealer.

Hey @donut07  I just saw your post so I thought I'd reply. We are september 2014 now so it is pretty safe to assume is never gonna come. You need to explain to Telus with specific on how the rest of the world was upgraded, and that since HTC decided not provide the update to the carrier, then you are entitled to get another product from Telus as post support was not conducted as intented. Ask to speak to the loyaly department. I'm swithing to Samsung now myself.

@Violins77 , let me try understand your logic. He didn't receive a software update so he's entitled to a brand new phone? If the manufacturer didn't give the update to Telus, how does that translate into getting a free replacement phone? Rogers didn't get the update either. HTC has upgrade instructions for US One X/X+ on AT&T but I haven't seen anything showing it's available in Canada. There are many posts and articles online showing the European version of the phone got the upgrade. Nothing for Canada.

Anyone who buys and Android device that doesn't get updates direct from Google, or the manufacturer, is going to experience this at some point guaranteed. Historically most Android device manufacturers put out one maybe two updates tops and then drop the device.

I had to read that 3 times to make sure I wasn't misinterpreting but yeah, he expects a free phone from TELUS because HTC didn't release an update.

If you really want the update then you can unlock your bootloader and load a custom operating system yourself.  HTC didn't send an update for your model however they will allow you developer access to do it yourself.  This will void any warranty you may have but you absolutely can get the updates you want if you're prepared to do a bit of reading.  Google XDA-Developers to get a better understanding of what your options are for upgrading.
