Sleep how?
-is the phone on a monthly plan or contract? Many plans have monthly minimums.
-your voice consumption might be zero, but many phones do background updates which burns up your data.

You might be wisest to call Telus, and see if they offer a "Vacation" option, where your service is suspended for a period, but not canceled. I believe they do with some of their other services such as sattellite TV, so they might with cell service.

Simply turning off your phone will still incur your regiular monthly charges.

What country are you going? You might be able to have your phone unlocked and take your phone with you.

Love having Google Maps to plan transit and get around the USA. Having your smartphone is also handy to plan restaurants and tourist stops.

What country are you headed? If to the lower 48, look at Roam Mobility.

Hey Olive,

If you are on month to month plan, you will get charge only the monthly service charge. For example. if your plan is costing you $25 + taxes, that should be the only you will need to pay for the months you were not using service.

If you are planning to travel you can request to have a Vacation Disconnect if you:
-Have your account up to date. *payments*
-Have your account active for at least 90 days.
-Agree in changing your plan once you want to reconnect your service, you will need to choose a plan that would be in market.
-Monthly cost will be $15+taxes.
-You can have your account on Vacation disconnect for a maximum of 6 months. no more than that.

🙂 Any other question you can just call *611 from your phone.

Additional info to Pamely's correct answer in case that you guys have a $50 monthly spending on the phone due to the terms that you signed up. Don't worry about paying half of the remainder on your phone because Telus understands that you have to disconnect your phone for a particular reason. They can drop the plan as low as $15 without a Minimum Service Commitment(MSC) Violation.

*Important: Lowering down the plan without MSC Violation is only applicable for VAD(Vacation Disconnect).
