Phone got stolen, trying to swap sim but email option doesn't work..

My phone got stolen and i'm trying to swap the sim to a different device, however i keep getting 

A verification code cannot be sent to the selected email address at this time. To receive a verification code right away, please choose the SMS option.

in the sim options. The two options are email and text and obviously text doesn't work as the phone is stolen. How can i resolve this? I want to setup my new phone so i can wipe my old phone through icloud.

Can someone please help urgently?
