To avoid telus charges in France and just use wifi I would have to turn off roaming -anything else?

Disable the SIM or remove the SIM card entirely. If it's an iPhone lock the SIM. Same effect but wireless will still work.

Please consider a VPN when using public wifi to avoid data eavesdropping.

Hi, if you still want to use the phone for calls and text but not the data then yes, turning off roaming should be enough. You will still be able to use the wi-fi. Remember to call TELUS for a roaming bundle if you plan on making calls and texts.
