Warmer weather is around the corner, and for many parents, the dawn of spring break means looking for activities to keep their kids busy. As social distancing guidelines continue to evolve at different paces, we’re pleased to announce that Virtual Science Camps powered by TELUS are back and sooner than you think! We’re teaming up with TELUS Spark and TELUS World of Science Edmonton to introduce virtual spring camps, beginning March 29.

The science camps were introduced virtually for the first time last year when we recognized that the power of our technology could meet a need – keeping the science community connected and helping parents and kids who were looking for unique ways to stay engaged during the lockdown. By connecting the two groups, we helped deliver an educational adventure to nearly 1500 campers across 18 unique virtual summer camps.

This year’s Virtual Science Camps powered by TELUS are facilitated by the STEM experts at the science centres. Like last year, TELUS is providing funding, programming, and the resources necessary to create an engaging experience for campers. Also, TELUS is providing connectivity for families in need in Alberta and B.C. through our Internet for Good program, helping to remove barriers for youth through low-cost Internet to participate in the Virtual Science Camps.

What does virtual camp look like?

Ideal for kids ages 5-12, campers are engaged in activities, experiments, lessons, and live discussions in STEM-related focus areas, including engineering and math, space and astronomy, sports and nutrition, nature, and more.

From learning about missions to Mars (hello, Rover!) and tinkering with inventions, to getting outside and discovering local ecosystems, each session will provide campers with opportunities to keep their minds sharp with fun, creative, and challenging activities and lessons.

The Learning Corner on Optik TV will also live-stream weekly content to supplement the campers’ education with tutorials and immersive experience. This content will be made available to all TELUS customers 24 hours a day through the Optik TV main menu or channel 611.
