SOUND

I am watching a show, whether live TV, recorded or streaming. The sound volume goes up and down during the show. At times (TV sound 1-100) it will be just right at 10, other times it is 50.

This is in addition to sound and video going out of sync after a pause.

  • Grimmt My post before your reply today was on 17th. Since then I have not had a sound drop, whisper for normal talking, all seems normal level to date. I agree the sync sound/video has not been a problem as well.

I do think tech support did something, maybe they did several things and are not claiming credit as time will tell. BTW, I had max tuner volume set before this problem started.

    1. can you confirm set-top box make/model TELUSTV-21T
    2. is it across all channels? yes across channels we watch
    3. do you have your set-top box volume set to 15 (ask google assistant to 'set volume to max')? Yes
    4. Are you using anything other than set-top box to tv and using TV speakers? Not for a while since I thought that was the problem
    5. Any sound settings you've changed on your TV? No,

I had mentioned turning off surround sound on tuner, that helps a lot. I had this before Telus occurring with shows with/without surround sound and running thru surround tuner would have to switch on/off stereo/surround.

Sound lost/or out of video sync also occurs when show paused/restarted

Can you help us out with some details a bit to try and get to the bottom of it?

      1. can you confirm set-top box make/model (TELUSTV-21T or TELUSTV-24S, other)?
      2. is it across all channels?
      3. do you have your set-top box volume set to 15 (ask google assistant to 'set volume to max')?
      4. Are you using anything other than set-top box to tv and using TV speakers?
      5. Any sound settings you've changed on your TV?

        Here’s my info:

can you confirm set-top box make/model (TELUSTV-21T or TELUSTV-24S, other)?
        TELUSTV-21T

        is it across all channels?
        Yes

do you have your set-top box volume set to 15 (ask google assistant to 'set volume to max')?

Interesting: I did this on one of my TVs and the volume instantly increased and I needed to reduce the TV volume. I’ll monitor if the problem continues.

Meanwhile: Is there a way to query what the current setting is before doing this? I would assume this would be important feedback. I have not done this on my other TV; so, I can provide info from my other TV that has the same issue.

Are you using anything other than set-top box to tv and using TV speakers?
No – I have the TELUSTV-21T directly connected via hdmi

Any sound settings you've changed on your TV?
        Before the problem started? no
Since the problem started? yes – many changes in an unsuccessful attempt to fix the problem.

  • No update, Never did get a PM however a PM will not solve a problem everyone has. Still happening.

  • Any update on this or anyone else seeing this?

This started on both my TVs with no changes from my side.
What changed on Telus' side?   If I was told what changed (like maybe release notes?!), I may be able to figure out what, on my side, I can fiddle with to fix this.

  • Definitely an issue, I've encountered the same - it's been going on for a while now and thought it was me.

    To reproduce sound drop:
    1. live stream: go back a few minutes and then skip forward a few times and eventually the sound drops.
    2. recording: go forward a few times and eventually the sound drops

    To reproduce sound recovery:
    1. bring up the guide and use up or down, and the sound will raise back up (no need to select a change in channel).
    2. (need to have recording items) bring up the recording menu and use down selection, the sound will raise back up (no need to select the recording)
This is the item that highlighted the issue and led me to start investigating.

I can reproduce this on two of my TVs - an LG OLED (4 years old) and a Sony (13 years old)

This started recently, maybe two updates back.
    Very annoying.

  • No to Automatic Volume Control except the volume leveler the Telus tuner has, which is off.

The sound issue has been around since 2023 as acknowledged by Optik Kate. It has to do with surround sound and updates that leapfrog other updates. One update fixes it and the next update fixing something else is programming software before the update that fixed another problem.

This started again with the current update 1.25.10.300 which maybe means October 25th. I found mine on auto format.

I chose None again and will update. I think it is the auto switch that send surround to a TV that does not have surround.

That doesn't sound right. For the audio fluctuations do you know if your TV has settings like  "Automatic Volume Control"  that adjusts the sound levels automatically?
