Collection Agencies? ACRM / GCSI / GCS

Since mid Dec 2025 my phone has received calls from ACRM +1 (877) 984-8718. I sometimes read the text of the voice messages left, sometimes saying they wanted a call to update their records, sometimes stating an amount they need to collect.

From memory for months before the calls I started receiving emails from ACRM to, same deal the email would say I have to pay an amount. The amount would go up. They would often say "Client: TELUS WIRELINE COMMUNICATIONS FOR GENERAL CREDIT SERVICES" and "Original creditor: TELUS WIRELINE". And I think in the early days the amount they were asking for matched some old bill with Telus from some time between 2018 to 2022. When I noticed this, I figured they were scammers who got hold of some old Telus records. ([email protected] is the latest email they sent from, I think there were other addresses that they sent from in the past)

This morning an amount showed up in my credit report received today, $2000+. The account name in the report GCSI-18558863653. Unfortunately I decided to call them (GCSI) they seemed legit. The woman who answered, picked up fast after pressed a menu number which I found unusual immediately. She routed me supposedly to someone who can help which turned out to just be a message asking me to leave my name and number.

Tonight I checked my email spam folder and an email from ACRM with that exact $2000+ amount is stated. So i'm confident that ACRM and GCSI are related. And if they were recording the call, they now have my voice, and a name and number to go with it.

I write all this more so to document it for others to see.

TELUS are you able to help? Can you confirm whether I have any debts with you? I've never had a Wireline / Landline.

  • I called Telus today and found out that it was a billing error on Telus part. A few months into the latest agreement/account, their billing switched (glitched, in their words) to billing the previous account I had, which had been a closed since Jan 2023. Which is why I was never informed of what I owed because my online services account only showed my current account. So the old account went to debt collection, which doesn't make sense since it was closed, but it turns out that is something that can happen.

If you receive scam looking debt collection emails that mention Telus, make sure that you call 1-888-811-2500 first, Telus Payment Services. If the emails mention an account number, see if that number matches an old Telus account number and compare your current account number.

Now I have a 2 to 4 week wait before I see if it clears from my credit report.

Did you ever have internet service? That would count as wireline.

Yes, Telus fibre, currently and from 2020 to 2022. Sorry, I didn't realize Wireline was a general term.
