I called Telus today and found out that it was a billing error on Telus part. A few months into the latest agreement/account, their billing switched (glitched, in their words) to billing the previous account I had, which had been a closed since Jan 2023. Which is why I was never informed of what I owed because my online services account only showed my current account. So the old account went to debt collection, which doesn't make sense since it was closed, but it turns out that is something that can happen.
If you receive scam looking debt collection emails that mention Telus, make sure that you call 1-888-811-2500 first, Telus Payment Services. If the emails mention an account number, see if that number matches an old Telus account number and compare your current account number.
Now I have a 2 to 4 week wait before I see if it clears from my credit report.
