Modem to Router Connection

Hey everyone,

I currently have this setup:

Ethernet cable from Modem, in LAN 1, connected to my wireless Router WAN.

However, I noticed that the modem also have WAN slot as well, so should I have it connected to that instead?

Example: Modem WAN, connected via Ethernet cable, to Router WAN.

Or should I keep it connected to Modem LAN 1 and Router WAN?

Also, I'm unable to connect to 192.168.1.254

Please let me know!
Thanks.

  • Modem LAN 1 and Router WAN is correct. Make sure your router is not sharing the same 192.168.1.x subnet. I had mine set to 192.168.10.x and I could still access 192.168.1.254 fine after that.

If I changed my Router IP address to 192.168.0.xx but I still can't access 192.168.1.254

Go to your Router page and look for the Internet (WAN) IP address it was assigned. Is it 192.168.1.xx or is it some other subnet?
