Telus TV Mini

Received the new Telus digital device and was impressed with the quick delivery and liked the fact all would be in one box. That soon ended. The remote would not turn on the TV as the old one did. Have to keep the old remote. Although the picture appeared better the sound quality is bad. The closed caption is in a very large font and although there is a setting to change that it does not. The partnership with Google is offensive. Always things to buy. If I want to buy something I go shopping. Like to listen to music on the Stingray service. Had to sign into Google and download the app. In the classical music section there are 5 choices on the Playstore app. On the Apple App store app there are 12. Needless to say, won’t be using Telus for music. Will be registering a complaint with the CRTC about the provision of a down grade in service wiyhout a decrease in monthly billing.

My TV keeps freezing. The solution to that seems to be to rewind a few seconds, then the video and audio will restart. I had a complete loss of video 7 times, but the audio remained; changing channels did not fix the problem. I do not like the new remote; it is quite confusing. Why did they not colour the command ring encircling the OK button like it was on the old remote? Other than the improvement of the screen colour, I am very disappointed.

This new Telus Mini is frustrating to use. Despite the "live assistant" help, it is still full of glitches and frustrating to use. The remote control is awful; I hope someone will redesign it and make it function like the previous versions. The only thing I really like is the quality of the video; it has improved a lot.

I eventually managed to get hold of a "live assistant" yesterday, a very helpful Indian lady who spent a lot of time sorting out my problems. The "virtual assistant" was of no help at all. I could not fully understand why my 2 boxes were still active even though I had physically disconnected them. The lady sorted out that problem and also checked remotely that everything was working well. I still do not like the new remote control; in my opinion, it is a big step back from the previous one.

We'll forward the feedback to our product team so we'll send you a private message to collect some info but curiously, do you generally leave the device on at all times (even when you turn your tv off)? The device has 2GB of RAM so it's cache, over time, can affect performance if it's not periodically cleared (by shutting it down).

I received my 2 Telus Mini boxes last week; they were a bit of a challenge to set up, but I finally managed. I just hate the new remote; it looked great at first, so few buttons to press but I soon found that some buttons opened different pages with other icons I had to press. It is definitely not intuitive!

I agree. The remotes don't sync. The interface is horrible. The CC is too big. Volume is iffy. Recordings freeze. No Stingray Music. Still trying to figure out how to eliminate all the channels I don't watch. And the Google partnership is revolting.

Access to Stingray Music is done through an app that you can download from the Google Play Store and is included in your Optik TV service. Stingray is a 3rd party service, so they determine access points and on Android TV, access is via an application.

Apparently you can't eliminate channels like you were able to do on Optik. But the plus side is you don't end up getting all the annoying promo channels popping up all the time (or at least not yet).

As for the remote syncing, shout out to FuzzyLogic - "You may need to enable HDMI CEC on your TV for the remote to be able to control the TV power with the new remote."

      Solved the problem for me.

Can you elaborate on 'you can't eliminate channels'? If you set up a list of favourite channels, you can filter your guide to only show your favourites. The favourite channel set up can be done from the Home screen or from the guide (press and hold OK when a channel is in focus and then choose 'Add channel to favourites'. From the guide, press the options button to bring up filter options.

  • Telus support spent a fair amount of time looking into it and though that people would have to keep their old remotes for that function.

You may need to enable HDMI CEC on your TV for the remote to be able to control the TV power with the new remote.

      Thanks. This worked for me.
