Internet installation cut power to my garage
A few weeks ago, a Telus sales person offered us a contract that would be $15 lower than what we are currently being charged by our internet provider. A technician was scheduled to come and do the installation this morning.
My family and I had made all of the necessary arrangements to move our stuff from areas that the technician would need to access, in order for the installation to go as smoothly as possible. He determined that the best way to run the internet cable into the house was alongside an electrical cable that fed power to our garage. He removed the access panel on the outside of the house. After he started working from the inside, the lights in our house flickered. I went downstairs to see what had happened. The technician said he had seen a “spark.” Later, back outside, he told us that the area around the power cable was too tight to accommodate the internet cable. He recommended that we hire an electrician. Well frankly, hiring an electrician would have eliminated any financial benefit we would have received by switching to Telus. He told us to reschedule after an electrician made an entry point for the new internet cable.
After he left, I went to the garage and discovered that the lights, overhead door and pond pump beside the garage were no longer working. I went to a home improvement store, bought new fuses for the garage, and replaced all of them. Still no power.
I contacted the Telus salesperson. They seemed to have been unaware of how to resolve this. They did eventually give me a number to call. After a long time on hold, I was told that someone would contact me in 1/2 an hour. That was 1 and 1/2 hours ago.
You would think someone at Telus would be reaching out to fix this? Well, you’d be wrong.
So, here I am without power to my garage and Telus being very quiet.

Telus paid for an electrician to repair the damage. I’m grateful for that. Thank you.
Nevertheless, trying to get assistance from Telus cost me a couple of days of my vacation. Wait times for assistance are unreasonably excessive and there seems to be little communication within the company. It took several phone calls and several hours on hold before anyone directed me to the department that would actually help me. In the end, Telus decided that I would be responsible for the cost of extending internet service into my home. That was going to cost me way more than I was supposed to save by switching to Telus.
