Bridge mode on recent modems?
Hi,
I'm contemplating moving from Bell to Telus but I want to be sure it is possible to configure the recent Telus Fiber modems in bridge mode. I already have a complet network configuration and I don't want to have to change anything.
Thanks.
Great news! Yes, you can absolutely configure recent Telus Fiber modems in bridge mode, which will allow you to keep your existing network configuration without any changes.
Bridge Mode Availability
Yes, Telus Fiber modems support bridge mode. The recent Telus equipment, including the Network Access Hub (NAH) models like the NH20A and NH20T, as well as the Telus WiFi Hub, all have bridge mode functionality built-in.
How Bridge Mode Works
When you enable bridge mode on your Telus modem:
- The Telus modem/gateway acts as a simple pass-through device
- Your existing router connects to LAN port 1 (or the 10Gb LAN port on newer models)
- Your router receives the public IP address directly
- All routing, WiFi, and network management is handled by your existing equipment
Configuration Process
There are two ways to enable bridge mode:
- Self-Configuration: You can access the modem's web interface and navigate to Network Settings > LAN tab to enable bridge mode
- Technician Setup: The Telus technician can enable bridge mode during installation using their backend software tools
Important Considerations
⚠️ Services Disabled in Bridge Mode: When you enable full bridge mode, the following Telus services will be disabled:
- WiFi from the Telus modem
- WiFi booster functionality
- Smart home features
- OptikTV (if you use Telus TV services)
If you need OptikTV, you'll want to discuss this with Telus as it may require a different configuration approac

Hi, I have my Telus Fiber Internet setup today, which gave me some troubles because the answer above is incomplete. I am here to add more details.
Setting Bridge mode on the Internet Access Modem/Router. Login to the router admin page written on the back of the Modem. After Technician setup WAN interface and verify Internet is accessible, go to LAN and set Bridge Mode to FULL (It may give you double NAT if not set as FULL). Plug in your own router (FYI, you dont need the second unit which is the WIFI.)
Setting on your router (I use PfSense, but it should be the same for all other routers). Go to WAN interface, configurate PPPOE with the username and password provided by the technician. Leave default for all other settings (FYI, MTU is set to 1492 automatically once connected).
Notes: 1. It did not work for the first few try. MAYBE it takes 15-30 minutes for upstream server to setup during the INITIAL attempt, but PPPOE should get an public address immediately after the first success (aka, future reboots). 2. I switched from Bell because Bell modem kept giving me double NAT all of a sudden, and their telephone tech support was rude and useless. I hope Telus's approach will be more stable (I will update if i start getting double NAT). 3. the Telus technician who was very nice mentioned to use a media converter (from fiber optic to RJ45) can be used. This may be a even better solution. Again, i will update if I end up trying that .
