Just ported over and sms won’t work
Just ported to Telus from Bell and discovered I can’t send or receive sms messages. Calling and data work fine. But sms and FaceTime with my number doesn’t work as iMessage being unable to send / receive on my number because it needs to send an sms verification to start the process . I’ve done all the online steps including resets and power cycles.Issue is server side not device side. Frustrating. Everything worked fine on Bell.

Hello Shamusom, Facetime and iMessages will use your Apple ID so this may be the reason of your issue. Can you try to turn iMessage off in your phone and send a text message to someone ? Try send a message to an Apple user and another to someone using Android. Let us know how it turns out and don't hesitate to look here as well. https://support.apple.com/en-ca/119859
