Port Forwarding Server Issue
Hey All,
I am trying to get Port Forwarding to work on my Technicolor NH20T Modem/Router so I can access Plex. I am able to connect to plex externally but only via a Relay connection. I will list my troubleshooting methods attempted so far below:
- Confirmed Public IP range (My IP falls under 154.x.x.x).
- Modem/router settings are set to TCP 32400 with internal static IP set to plex server.
- Plex has external access enabled and manually forward to 32400.
- Factory reset modem/router and updated setting.
- called Telus which told me port forwarding is only for business accounts (wrong), put my router in bridge mode and then told me they cant help.
I know this setup should work since I have a friend who has Telus fiber with the same modem and the same settings. When i try to access the port using yougetsignal.com It tells me the port is closed. Short of moving to a different provider I am stuck for troubleshooting methods. Anyone got any recommendations on where to go from here?

You won't be able to connect to your own server / external IP from your own connection. It's blocked at the network level for all accounts / connections. Only way to test is to connect from an outside connection like cellular or a device connecting through a VPN.
It will also depend if your NH20T has a regular public IP. If you access your modem settings at 192.168.1.254, does the WAN IP there match the IP you see if you go to https://www.whatismyip.com/ ?

Update, Nighthawk was on the right track. My internet was CGNAT'd so thats why i wasnt able to get a direct connection.

It's unclear where you are having a problem. You say you can connect to Plex externally so port forwarding is working. Can you elaborate as to what isn't working?

Thats also where I am confused as well. I can connect to Plex but it identifies it as a "Relayed Connection" which im assuming is an issue with port forwarding since my understanding of the relay connection is its going from my IP address server, to Plex's IP server to my phones IP when im on Cellular network (using some other port?) rather than a direct connection which is causing throttling issues.
This understanding could be very flawed though since im backing it up with the test using yougetsignal.com when I try to find/access port 32400 it comes back as blocked.
I could be missing something entirely, if there is a better way to confirm port forwarding or narrow down the issue I am happy to put in some leg work!
