I Just Got Fleeced By Telus Call Center Employee
I ordered a new iPhone 17 Pro online last night on a new 'Bring It Back' plan, but the confirmation emails showed that they had one number wrong in my shipping address. So I called in today to correct the mistake. Telus doesn't like people calling in, and tries its best to force its AI chatbot on you, but I was able to finally talk to a real person. And, like Tim Hortons, Telus doesn't like to hire Canadians, so that person was in the Philippines. My "helper" was JM.
All I wanted JM to do was correct the shipping address by changing the one number. Nope. JM said he had to reprocess the whole order. This was a painful, unnecessary ordeal. JM said that I had to prove who I was, and insisted on a picture of my driver's license and a corresponding selfie - BTW, if my personal info, or identity, is compromised, I'll be suing the bejeezus out of Telus and JM. Then, JM finally said I was me, and asked me to confirm the plan that I wanted. I told him that I had picked the $95/month -200GB plan. He said thank you for confirming, and did more reprocessing. He then told me that I had to pay an $80 connection fee. This fee had been waived last night when I ordered online. I told him that fact, and he said 'oh yes, as a long time customer(23 years), he can make a "one-time exemption" and waive that fee'. He didn't. Not only did JM NOT waive the $80 connection fee, he arbitrarily changed my plane to the $105/175 GB plan that I didn't want. Plus and another unnamed $10/month fee that makes my plan $115 dollars/month, not the $95 I had expressly chosen.
So now I'm paying more for less, not sure if my new phone is even going to arrive, and I'm not sure how to correct it.
