Telus Pure Fiber 3Gig Booster 2.0 Poor Wifi
I just had TELUS Pure Fibre installed. This router / Boost 2.0 wifi is new to me.
I have Shaw that I am looking to cancel but the TELUS WIFI is so poor I am debating cancelling the TELUS instead. The single SHAW modem/wifi unit provided excellent range and speed throughout the entire house. TELUS, not to much.
I have my PC hardwired into the 10Gbps port on the router, speeds are good. However the WIFI is very frustrating. The moment you leave the room, speeds drop considerably. Also, you can seem to separate the 2.4 and 5 Ghz and rename them or change the passwords? You have to use the single network and let it pick. And I seem to get vastly different speeds when connected to one or the other. If it is on 2.4, I get around 40 Mbps speeds. If I am on 5 Ghz, I get around 600+ Mbps and these are in the same room as the Wifi Boost 2.0. If I go to the basement the speed drops to around 25 Mbps, even on 5 Ghz. I never had this issue with Shaw. Why is there such a difference in Wifi Quality. I may just cancel the Telus.

The primary differences between 2.4 and 5 Ghz is that 2.4 has slower speeds but greater range while 5 has higher speeds and lesser range.

I have the same problem with my plaster and lathe walls in my old (1940's) house as they contain a wire mesh that might block some of the signal. I don't know why it would be different with your old Shaw connection. It might be worthwhile to try other channels in the admin page of the Telus Boost WiFi device.
