Intermittent connectivity issues with MOCA adapter
Hello!
for the last two days, I’ve been encountering intermittent connectivity issues with my moca adapter. Before I began having these issues, the setup was working flawlessly for about the last 5 months.
Just a bit of background on how I have it setup.
Modem Coax Port -> Living room Coax Wall Outlet -> Coax Junction box (Not on a splitter, directly feeds from living room to the office) -> Office Coax Outlet -> MOCA
Moca would work perfectly fine when first booting my PC, but after about 20 - 30 minutes, the connection would drop and not comeback from anywhere between 2-5 minutes. And this cycle would repeat.
triple checked all connections, even moved the Moca so it was directly plugged into the Modem Coax Port and used my laptop to test, and it would still drop after 20-30 minutes.
finally ended up factory resetting the modem and the intermittency appears to have stopped entirely. (Been steady for the last hour, no more disconnects).
I’m wondering if there was maybe a bad firmware update released recently that is causing issues with the Moca? Anyone else noticing this?
One last update:
Had a tech come out this morning and we swapped out the MoCA, we agreed that the adapter was going bad (had this MoCA for the last ~5 years)
Not running into anymore issues.
Thanks everyone who contributed to the thread.

The next time it goes down try cycling the power on the MoCA adapter. If it works again it's either the adapter or the power supply for the adapter.

Thanks for the advise,
When it went down a few hours ago I tried power cycling the MoCA and it still wouldn’t connect.
I then unplugged it and moved it over to the modem and directly connected it.
I plugged the Ethernet from the directly connected MoCA into my laptop and it still didn’t have a connection.
I then moved it back into my office and plugged it back in and just left it for about 15 minutes and it’s back on again.
I’m very confused if it’s either the MoCA itself or maybe my modem needs to be replaced.

Did you have other devices with an Ethernet port? If so try testing whether it's the PC - adapter combination or not. It's also possible your adapter is failing.

Thanks Xray,
The connection just dropped again now.
While it was down, I took out the ethernet cord from my PC and put it into my laptop. It still will not connect.
I then took a ethernet cable and plugged directly into one of the open ports on the modem, connected without issue.
Modem still had a link light for the MoCA on. I'm leaning toward maybe my MoCA is going bad. Will call into support and see if I can have it replaced.

Just wanted to leave another update.
No issues this morning after my second factory reset in the last two days.
I've had the PC running for about 45-50 minutes and no disconnects.
I will continue to monitor it throughout the day and if I notice the connection dropping again, I may need to have the modem itself replaced.
Thank you!

The intermittent outages could be due to a failing power supply or perhaps the router itself.
Your troubleshooting process made a lot of sense and you are astute to detail it in your posts because it saves you from seeing a lot of suggestions that likely have nothing to do with the problem.
Which router do you have?
When the MoCA connection is down is the WiFi and Ethernet still working?

Good morning and thank you for the reply.
I have the NAH modem.
You are correct, when the MoCA connection is down, I still have an active connection over Wi-Fi and Ethernet. On the actual MoCA itself, it will still be showing the correct link lights and there's no indication that it's turning off.
Over on the modem side, the Coax port is still showing a green light indicating that it's active.
It's a bit of an odd case with the intermittency of it.
I just booted up the PC again this morning and I'm yet to run into any issues (About 45 minutes of up-time so far) I will continue to monitor it and if I continue to experience disconnects, I may need to have the Modem replaced is what I'm thinking.

Just wanted to leave another update.
After power cycling the modem + Wi-Fi boost this morning, it was working for about an hour before I left for an appointment.
When I came back home this afternoon and booted up my PC, it had no internet connection again.
- I tried power cycling the equipment again, and it resolved the issue for about 30 minutes, then it disconnected again. (Wi-Fi + ethernet port's we're working, just the coax connection died.)
- I did another factory reset, and I'm about 1hr in and no issues.
It almost seems like there is either an issue with the firmware of the modem or the actual coax port on the modem is dying.
- After factory resetting, the firmware version is reading v1.18.02 build04
I will check again in the morning to see if the firmware version changes, and if the connection continues to drop.

Quick update,
Encountered the same issue this morning. Instead of factory resetting the modem + Wi-Fi boost, I power cycled both devices.
Seems to be working fine again. No disconnects yet.
I might need to call in and get another NAH ordered if this pattern continues. (Not ideal to have to power cycle my equipment each morning).
