Bluetooth headset and Optic TV (Samsung)

I have a Sennheiser HD 350BT headset that I'm trying to successfully pair to my Samsung TV (1 year old) on Telus Optic TV.

This morning I got as far as having the TV find the headset. Once that was done, thinking the next step was to switch to the Telus Optic TV remote, I discovered that the TV would not switch over to the Optic remote from the Samsung remote.  

What am I doing wrong?

Did you follow the instructions for programming the Optik remote?

To be clear, the TV doesn't switch anything, it has no idea which remote you are using. You can still use the Samsung remote after programming the Optik remote.
