4k: VIP5602 vs Telus21K/Android STB

I am planning to stick with the legacy Telus Optik 4K box (VIP5602), as opposed to "upgrading" to the new Telus 21K based Android box.  I have heard the video qualitry/compression is not as good on the Android box, and there are some bugs to to work out.

Will future/additional 4K channel offerings be limited to the Telus21K box?  I have heard part of the reason Telus moved to this new platform was to "allow more 4k content"?  Does this mean (for some techinical reason) the VIP5602 cannot handle as many 4k channels?

My understanding is the primary reasoning for the Android boxes is to better support 3rd party apps such as Netflix, Apple TV etc. Telus can concentrate on their TV+ offering while letting the streamers support their own apps.

I suspect we won't see much happening with the old Optik boxes but they should continue to support 4K content. I don't anticipate much in the way of new Apps on the old boxes (Apple TV, GEM etc.)

Just a long time customer hoping to help.
