Whether you're travelling or at home, your mobile device automatically scans for and selects the networks closest to it. Usually, this is a good thing, but in some instances, it may lead to accidentally or unintentionally roaming when it wasn't your intent to do so. This can result in roaming fees for what would've otherwise been covered by your rate plan. Accidental roaming often occurs in regions and towns bordering the U.S. Below are a few steps for how you can prevent such instances of accidental roaming:

Tablet-purple@480.pngDisable automatic network selection:

On iOS devices:

  1. Go to settings
  2. Tap on Cellular
  3. Select Network Selection
  4. Turn off Automatic. This will initiate a network scan.
  5. Select TELUS

On Android devices:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select Network & Internet
  3. Click on SIMs
  4. Uncheck Automatically select network
  5. Once the scan is complete, click on TELUS

Disable data roaming:

On iOS devices:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select Cellular
  3. Click on Cellular Data Options
  4. Turn Data Roaming off

On Android devices:

  1. Go to settings
  2. Select Network and Internet
  3. Click on SIMs
  4. Switch off Roaming

A few more things to consider:

  • When travelling outside of Canada, if you wish to roam and enjoy features such as TELUS Easy Roam, you will need to enable automatic network selection and the data roaming settings above.
  • When resetting your device or network settings, you will need to repeat the above steps.
  • When changing devices you will need to repeat the above steps.
  • It's a good idea to re-check these settings after a software update.

Sounds to me like Telus is confusing eSim with Travel eSim services.

Yes,of course, if i have an eSim because i want 2 phone numbers then yes I will be billed for roaming but Telus I don't think understands eSim technology based on a downloaded App.
