texting outside of Canada (canadian customer visiting US)

What do I have to do to be able to "text only" while visiting the US? I do not need to use my phone to make calls. My spouse and I want to be able to text each other and friends to stay in touch while being away from Canada for 2-3 months. Is there a plan ($$$) that can be bought through Telus? We will turn "OFF" the celluar data.

 Thanks in advance.

You can't habve your phones available for tgexts only, so you remain vulnerable to incoming phone calls.

Best deal is to pick up a cheap prepaid phone at Walmart once you arrive at your destination. Top it up as necessary.

Here's some options.... it really depends how many texts you want to do...

  • Telus US passes.  I see for $45 a month you can text all you want and get to keep your current number.

  • Roam Mobility, my fav way to travel (except when in Alaska, and going to Jellystone where there is no coverage).  Note they have unlimited voice & texting.  They have have a data add on as well.  You will need to have your phone unlocked.

  • ATT prepaid phones... I use them when in Alaska, but it's good in the rest of the USA to.  Note, these phones are unable to call outside of the USA.

if you want your phone for texting only why not just not answer phone calls? if you dont anwser it let go to voicemail then no charge and you can check when you get back and put on voicemail greeting that you will not be checking until return and to text you then your phone is effectively texting only can even put ringtone for phone to silent depending on your phone

there is no way for telus to block incoming and outgoing calls because it is user initiated. best thing is not to pick up the call. for texting. there are some packages that will help you lowerdown the cost. they have 30 day text package as well as month to month to make sure that you will be covered for texting while in US. packages includes

$15 - 75 text/ unlimited incoming

combo pass $25 -  50 mins calling, unlimited text and 50MB for data

combo pass $45 - 150 mins calling, unli text and 150MB or go with

combo pass $65 - 300mins calling, unli text and 300MB

*mins can be used in calling US and canadian numbers

try this link, it might help you decide on what to get:
