Data Usage

TeddysMom
Just Moved In

I'm having problems with data usage.  In 3 days my son's phone has consumed half or our monthly shared data.  The strange thing is, when I checked the usage log, it's showing that he used over 300mb of data at 6:00am while he was sleeping and his phone was connected to wifi.  It also showed over 1Gb of data usage while he was at school...he was playing football and not using his phone.  Any suggestions on what might be happening?

What phone does he have?  If automatic updates or automatic backups are turned on, it could easily be using data when he is doing something else.

You have to be sure to turn data off when not in use.

That is ridiculous.  No one can remember to turn off data every time you get to a wifi.  Just an excuse by Telus for their issue.

@SM1 - This has nothing to do with Telus. It will be a combination of manufacturer and user error. If your phone is actually working correctly, once it’s on wireless it shouldn’t be touching cellular data.

If you have an iPhone, you just need to make sure you shut off Wifi Assist in the Cellular settings. Wifi Assist will use cellular data if your wireless network is performing too poorly.
