When is the best time to purchase an add-on for a prepaid plan, just before the due date or after?

If it is to be a continuing use add-on, renewed monthly, it really does not matter, as it will continue for 30 days, and be renewed. You just need to be sure sufficient credits are in your account. 

If it is a temporary add-on, such as vacation travel data add-on, then buy just before you need it.
