Using an old phone temporarily while other is being repaired

I plan to send my current IPhone 6 to apple to be repaired (new battery) but it will be gone for a week or more. I'd like to use an old phone of my moms (iPhone 5) while its gone, can I just take the sim card out of my phone and put it in the loaner? Her phone is most likely locked to MTS (I recently switched to Telus), can it still be unlocked even though it doesn't have an account/sim card associated with it?

Your mom will have to call BellMTS to have it unlocked. Once unlocked you can insert your sim and use the phone.

The quickest way for a battery replacement is visiting an Apple store (done in house) But I’d assume one is not close to your location.

Be sure you’re paying the $35 battery replacement cost not $99. Apple has lowered the cost, since they were caught slowing the cpu clock speed to save battery life. They did this without notifying consumers of the practice.

Thanks for the info! No, taking to an Apple Store isn’t really an option...
