Software update for HTC One / One X+

HTC Canada confirmed that the HTC One X and One X+ will be upgraded to Android 4.4 (https://www.facebook.com/htccanada)

Now, customers of Telus with these phones are stills stuck with Android 4.1, and even though when the update to 4.2.2 was rolled out a few months ago, Telus did not do anytthing while ALL the other carrier in Canada pushed the software update over the air. These phones were the Telus flagships for a while, and the fact that there has been absolutely ZERO update and support from Telus is downward insulting toward the customers.

Can you at least confirm that we will get this next upgrade to 4.4 that HTC is rolling out? A LOT of issues were fixed since 4.1... Please, I'm not asking for a specific date, just a confirmation. I have been a customer of Telus for 11 years and I just cannot beleive the lack of support on this phone...

Thank you.

That's Easy all you have, to do is go into your settings, so you can go to update your HTC phone, it is under About Phone, and should say download software update. Then you just go to HTC.com, and the update will be right. On the site HTC ,SYNCE and all the steps are right there.

Can I please get an update from Telus on this? Leaving us in the dark just increases my unhappiness about this situation...

Not really an answer, as the orginal post mentioned, the one X+ is running 4.1, when you go to updates on the phone it says phone is up to date, when clearly according to the HTC Canada website the phone should be running 4.2.2 and sense 5. THis update has been available in other countries since last year.

According to what I've read the unsupported NVIADA processor used in the one x+  will not see anything beyond 4.2 in an offical HTC release and anything beyond that will require a custom ROM, I don't believe this phone will ever see an offical release of 4.4

We are talking about the 4.2.2 update which Telus is NOT releasing. I called them and they offered me a new phone at 0$, but at this point I think I'll just finish my few months left and go with another carrier. The lack of support and official word from Telus on this is just atrocious.

@Violins77
"We are talking about the 4.2.2 update which Telus is NOT releasing"

FYI, HTC (not TELUS) decided not to release 4.2.2 for the version of the One X/X+ that TELUS and Rogers carry. It's not the same phone as the AT&T One X+ and international versions that received the update.

"I'll just finish my few months left and go with another carrier"

So which carrier will you go to that can force the manufacturer to release an update?

Ok, I won't be bothered to look for a quote on the HTC Canada Facebook page, but I guarantee you that HTC said to look forward to Android 4.4 on HTC One X and One X+, not just HTC One.

Second, you're wrong, the phone that Telus and Rogers carry is exactly the same one than the one from AT&T. You don't have any proof that the decision comes from HTC. And even if it is indeed the case, the lack of response from Telus on this subject is insulting.

@Violins77 - It's amazing what you can find in just 3 minutes on Google. You've probably spent more than twice that posting about it here.

From: http://mobilesyrup.com/2014/01/13/goodbye-old-friends-htc-says-one-x-and-one-x-wont-see-android-4-3/

"Though the Canadian variants of the HTC One X, available at Rogers and TELUS, and the One X+, also available at TELUS, never moved beyond the Android 4.1.1 update released in January, international versions of the device gained an update to Android 4.2.2, which included improvements to Sense UI."

The above clearly makes a distinction between the Canadian versions and the international versions that received the update.

This recent post on the HTC Facebook page implies 4.2.2 was never released by HTC Canada for the One X/X+. I'm not sure what to make of the HTC response "please stay tuned" but it's certainly not a concrete answer that any of the carriers would likely pass on to their customers.

hi, i want to know when you will release the update of sense 5/4.2.2 for the HTC One X+???

Here is the proof that HTC is reconsidering 4.4 one One X (it was posted after the article that Xray posted) :

And here is the quote from HTC Canada page on Android 4.4 on One X :

Any info on 4.2.2 for the HTC One X yet? I would like to get a taste of Sense 5, before I make my decision between the One (M8) or the GS5. Unlike ·  · March 29 at 1:48pm

HTC Canada The 4.4.2 OS is lined up for Canada shortly so keep an eye out and connect with your carrier to check on exact dates. It will bring with it the Sense 5.5, cloud printing, Blinkfeed update, Bluetooth profiles and security enhancements.

USER : This is actually pretty awesome if it is true, but do we know if Telus will offer the update as well? So far, they have been absolutely terrible with their software updates. I have never seen a technology company who doesn't care as much as they do.

USER 2 You can almost be guaranteed that Telus will NOT offer it. They never have for any phone I have purchased. Telus just wants you to keep buying a new phone.

USER  just posted in the Telus forum how insulted I feel with their lack of support for software upgrade. I invite you to do the same :

@Violins77, nobody is questioning what HTC is planning or not planning for updating the One X/X+. The point is that it's out of TELUS's control and even passing on information to their customers is ill advised given HTC isn't making any official announcements and they can easily change their mind.

You are beating a dead horse with this complaint.

Let's just agree to disagree then, because I think it is EXACTLY for Telus to pass information and keep their customers in the loop. Ignoring all the inquiries on a given subject is just a sign of poor customer service in my opinion. They probably have much more info on the subject than what HTC is letting us know and they should tell us that they are trying to work with HTC for their customers.

In this case there really isn't any information to pass on. You are assuming that TELUS has some influence on HTC which I don't think is the case.

Unfortunately the number of HTC phones out there pales in comparison to iPhones and Samsungs. My guess is TELUS receives relatively few inquiries about our devices. It may be just you and me 🙂

Well atleast Telus released the security upgrade to fix the Heartbleed vunerabilty last week... still stuck with 4.1.1 on the X+

No, they did not confirm that. The upgrade was for the HTC One which is a different phone.

Ok thank you for these info, I did look a lot on the subject, but I did not know that Canada had a different model. When the HTC One X released, the US and Canada had the dual core while the international version had the Tegra 3, so I thought the One X+ was the same in US and Canada, as there is no hardware difference... It's good to know HTC is still considering it, but I still think Telus needs to break silence on this... They should explain what the situation is instead of just ignoring.

Its not really Telus' place to make such announcements, it's almost like rumor-mongering to do so. The responsibility belongs to HTC to announce upgrades.

If you find a post useful, please give the author a "Kudo"

But I think they should not ignore customers asking for an update. Something as simple as "we are working with HTC on it" or "HTC are the one handling the upgrades and we haven't heard anything from them" would work... Telus is not a small company, it is not like they don't have the ressources or staff to reply to these inquiries. I paid good money for this phone and I pay more than 1k a year for this service, and seeing how our neighbours from the south got the update it's only normal to expect an answer from them.
