Motorola X can't save contacts

Why won't my phone save new contacts anymore? How do I fix this?

Can you provide a bit more detail as to what happens when you try to save a contact?

For example, someone will text message me and I will try to save the contact number. I'll enter a name and save. A minute later I'll look at the text message and the name is gone, replaced by the phone number.

And what happens when you look in your contacts app? Is the name associated with the number there?

No. There is nothing saved there. It's as if I didn't save anything. That is why I am frustrated.

Are you using the default included app for texting or a third party one?
